Where We are Going

In its seventh decade, JIS is known the world over as an accomplished school, one that has weathered many storms and emerged as a positive, multicultural, and innovative learning environment. 

The school's hunger for continuous improvement reflects the optimistic and entrepreneurial nature of its Indonesian host nation. While Indonesia's young democracy is striving to establish itself on the global stage, JIS is a mature school that is hoping to maintain its vitality by asking fundamental questions about its mission and vision.

On the human side, we have an outstanding faculty, dedicated staff, bright and hard-working students, supportive parents and alumni, a visionary Board, and a strong leadership team. Our physical plant is a well-endowed, amply resourced, tropical haven in the heart of Jakarta. These are the elements needed for creative contemplation of a visionary school.

With knowledge expanding exponentially and technological access to that knowledge morphing   daily, schools are reassessing their essential structures and roles. Recent brain research has converted some hunches into certainties, while throwing some challenging questions to educators the world over. In short, we are learning about how students learn best. Some forms of learning are almost universally effective, and some need to be tailored to individuals' unique styles. We must therefore convert our schools, perhaps fundamentally, to allow for new and appropriate methodologies of learning.  

Kurikulum

Learning Dispositions

We recently adopted four learning dispositions that we believe are essential to all of us as we go through life. These four key dispositions are modeled, taught and reported on across the school. In addition, we are looking to develop feedback models for everyone at JIS on our development in these essential domains. The JIS Dispositions are based on the BLP framework and the research of Guy Claxton.

The JIS Learning Dispositions provide a thread through the entire school in terms of attributes that we believe are essential and can be developed. We are in the early days of this work at JIS and look forward to developing better ways to teach, provide feedback on, and grow the new four R's in all of us.

Early Childhood

 

In our dreams, we'd love to walk with each young learner through our Early Childhood Centers so they can feel the warmth and creativity of those special places at JIS. At least we can stop here to express our anticipation to the kids we'd love to meet. Our Early Childhood program at JIS immerses children in an atmosphere of wonder, care, exploration, and growth, and it isn't long until their love of learning grows from the inside out.

 

The EC academic program is based on The Creative Curriculum ® for preschool, a comprehensive early childhood educational system that has been shown to promote cognitive, physical, social/emotional, and language development of children.

Young children learn best through direct sensory encounters with the world, rather than through abstract and formal academic procedures. The program is supported by qualified, committed adults who guide young children in their acquisition of knowledge and their development of content, skills and attitudes.
